Born in 1974 in the city of Coventry, Ranjit Chall graduated from Nene University College - Northampton with a BSc Honours degree in Economics. He went on to gain an English Grammar teaching qualification from the Bromley School of English in London.
The sea became hugely influential in his life, as it was a move to Bournemouth which led to the inspiration for the Silver Fairy, episode one of the texts from ‘The Great Hall of Fathoms.’
The Silver Fairy is his first novel.

The author writes in the Preface to this book:
'The Silver Fairy is the first novel in a series to hold sacred information taken from the ancient texts, which belong in the ‘Great Hall of Fathoms.’ The Great Hall lies in a quaint region, far from the Earthworld of mortals. However, I must advise you the reader to take precautions whilst reading this book as there is a strong possibility of us mortals entering into this unknown territory, irrespective of its distant nature.
This and many other places such as the ‘Atalyst zone’, will be thoroughly investigated, explained and discussed in the following book - episode two.
I have removed the writings contained in this novel from one of the ancient books in the Great Hall, which leaves me fully responsible for my actions. All I politely ask of you, the reader, is that you keep this book safe and hidden from those peculiar forces and beings that are known to some but unknown to the majority, for they will surely want these writings returned to the archives of the Great Hall.
It is even more serious than I had imagined because as I write this to you, my ‘other worldly’ associate has informed me that ‘The Scroismaster’, has become aware that the books in the Great Hall have been tampered with and some writings have strangely gone missing! Time is of great essence to me now so I must hurry because they will surely be looking for me!!
My only other words to you the reader, be it that you are a child, an adult or any other mysterious individual, wherever you are in the world at this moment in time, are that I sincerely hope you gain as much knowledge, enjoyment and understanding of Winter’s timeless, illuminating beauty as I certainly did whilst writing this fascinating tale. If you do then you will have probably taken the first crucial steps into fully understanding and enjoying the second book.
May I also hasten to add; do not be disturbed, frightened or surprised if on completion of this novel you see a peculiar luminosity in the skies beyond your bedroom window, or on the ground surrounding your doorstep, for it is highly probable that you will have entered an unexplainable dimension, most likely to be as ‘real’ and as bewildering as the one inhabited by the Silver Fairy.'
